The Yew Tree in Vilemovice

In the garden grows an old yew tree. Diameter of its trunk is 310 cm and is approximately 1500 – 2000 years old. Yew is a dioecious tree and this yew tree is female one. The tree is poisonous, because its bark, wood and seeds are full of alkoloid called toxin. The yew tree is a highly protected tree because it might be the oldest tree in middle Europe. Yew tree in Vilémovice is one of the most beautiful memorial yew trees in the Czech Republic. It is also probable that the tree is one of the oldest in Europe, even though according to expert opinion is not that old because younger trunks of several trees often grow in a group and make one trunk together. This happens quite often especially with yew trees.
